Anyone had bilateral mastectomy?

I've been told by doctors I should get prophylactic bilateral mastectomy due to a severe risk factor-LCIS. I'm wondering if anyone has had this surgery, as I don't personally know anyone who has. Was it difficult to get through? Risky? Did you have to have general anethesia? How long was your recovery? Any complications? Thanks. Any information would be appreciated.
